• BevTech Solutions is a stand alone technical department within the Lion - Beer, Spirits & Wine group who contract services and provide hospitality industry technical support to various independent and corporate customer groups. BevTech Solutions has been in its current form since 2001 and was primarily set up as an independent department within Lion (BSW) to provide technical services and equipment to the Lion (BSW) sales and marketing departments. Over time the operation has evolved into the supply and installation of a more comprehensive range of beverage dispense and refrigeration equipment along with opening up access to all hospitality businesses and independently run organisations including competitor beverage companies.

  • A key objective of BevTech Solutions is to support and grow the tap beer aspect of the hospitality industry by offering services and support to industry customers who have a tap beer dispense operation as well as other beverage storage and dispense systems. BevTech offers the hospitality industry national coverage through our scale and reach (Southland to Northland), documented national installation and performance standards, superior equipment options, comprehensive post installation support/management along with long term existing relationships with most ‘On Premise’ industry customers.

  • Through planned outlet assessments and staff training BevTech Solutions focus on ensuring that the quality and integrity of tap beer products are maintained and presented to the highest possible standard to consumers every time they purchase tap beer. Consumer feed back research suggests that they will convert or revert to packaged beer products if they experience poor quality tap beer or have formed a negative opinion of tap beer.

  • BevTech Solutions actively focus on supplying and installing high quality beverage equipment in all types of beverage equipment installations ranging from tap beer dispense systems through to refrigerated cabinets and glass washer units. Using reputable suppliers with good support and back up management systems helps ensure that any equipment used is reliable and will perform to a high standard for the duration of the equipment's planned working life.

  • As a specialised beverage systems technical department BevTech Solutions are tasked with providing up to date technical advice, support and resources to the hospitality industry throughout New Zealand and some overseas destinations. The ability of BevTech to offer viable, contemporary, cost effective solutions to hospitality industry projects and concepts contributes in growing the overall viability of the hospitality industry through innovation, specialised equipment and effective solutions.

Planned Calls

  • As part of BevTech Solutions territory management objectives, technicians periodically visit trade outlets that sell tap beer products to assess and advise on the quality and presentation of the outlet tap beer and also the performance of the beer dispense system. This service is primarily designed to help lift the overall quaility of tap beer via hospitality industry to consumers while also offering trade operators independent advise and direction to improve the tap beer operation of their businesses.

Training

  • BevTech Solutions offer a outlet training service resource that covers beer dispense system products, operation and management. This training objective has been put in place is to impart specific knowledge to trade opertors who have just opened a new hospitality business, taken over a hospitality business or have a number of new staff joining the business who have not worked with tap beer before. Skilled staff will help reduce tap beer wastage while delivering a superior product to their customers and consumers. Suitably skilled staff will also be able to undertake some basic maintenance procedures within the outlet saving the necessity of contracting beer line cleaners and other maintenance contractors for relatively simple tasks.

Faulty Kegs

  • BevTech Solutions provide technical back up and analysis for keg performance issues in trade outlets. Often when an outlet experiences beer dispensing issues the source keg will be seen to be at fault and in most instances the keg will be changed only for the fault to reappear in the next keg. These situations generally signal a beer dispense system fault and not a keg fault, BevTech Solutions technicians are trained to identify whether the issue is a keg fault or a dispense system fault and if requested to undertake repairs on the beer dispense system to rectify the fault.

Health and Safety

  • BevTech Solutions are focused on ensuring that health and safety is kept front of mind on hospitality industry projects and contract installation activities we are involved and associated with. BevTech Solutions work to commonly specified industry safety standards and have documented material listing required safety equipment and potential work place hazards that may occur in our various work environments.

Cleaning Chemicals

  • Beer line cleaning chemicals contain caustic soda (strong alkali) which can harm eyes and skin especially when used in conjunction with circulation pumps and pressurised cleaning vessels. Glass soaking powders contain chlorine as the active ingrediant which can harm eyes and skin, physical contact can occur from splashing when soaking glassware in open containers or sinks. Glass washer chemicals also contain active ingredients which can injure eyes and skin especailly when handling bulk containers. Glass washers are very hot when in use and can cause steam scolding when opened immediately after a wash cycle.

Gas Cylinders

  • Gas cylinders for beer dispense systems and post mix dispense systems generally contain C02 or C02/Nitrogen mixtures which can cause asphixiation in excessive concentrations in confined spaces. Gas cylinders must be used in an upright position, securely restrained, stored and used at room temperature.

Cool Room Hazards

  • The typical cold environment of a cool room can on occasion cause ice build up on floor and along with water used during cleaning can make cool room floors slippery especially when carrying in products to load a cool room. Incorrectly stacked kegs can cause harm and equipment damage through random toppling during positioning or when dislodged. Poor lifting techniques and practices when positioning or manovering kegs can cause physical harm in cool room and keg storage areas especially when double stacking kegs, loading in confined locations and manovering down stairwells.

  • 300aBevTech Solutions purchase locally manufactured products whenever possible to support the New Zealand economy, reduce the cost of goods and minimise the necessity of long distance freight associated with importing products from overseas. Warranty issues and replacment parts are genarally easier to manage and impliment when products are locally made or sourced.

  • Wherever possible surplus beer dispense system, refrigeration and other beverage equipment is reused within the business or refurbished and sold back at discounted rates into the hospitality industry. This activity has greatly reduced the level of used equipment sitting in storage or being disposed to waste.

  • 301aObsolete and redundant metal componentary used in beer dispense systems, refrigeration systems and other beverage equipment is recycled via local recycling companies. Paper and cardboard packaging products are also collected and recycled via local recycling companies. All obsolete, toxic liquid refrigerant is professionally decommissioned and disposed of to the recommended industry standards and practices.

  • 302Non toxic, food grade Glycol is always supplied and used in chilled water systems installed by BevTech Solutions. Chilled water cooling lines run in conjunction with beer lines which carries the remote possibility in extraordinary circumstances that Glycol could contaminate the Beer reticulation supply.

  • Modern beer dispense systems supplied and installed by BevTech Solutions use small diameter beer lines enabling wastage and installation costs to be reduced. The smaller diameter lines reduce wastage during beer line cleaning and allow smaller diameter beer pythons to be used during the installation process.

Personal Protection

  • 289aBevTech use the following safety equipment as our standard default option whenever the use of power tools, gases and chemicals are being considered. We recommend that any person or persons using simliar equipment, gases and chemicals should also have the necessary personal protection equipment available and on hand to minimise and eliminate any potential health and safety risks.
