International & NZ Designed Beer Towers

Beer Towers

There are many different internationally and New Zealand designed and manufactured styles of beer towers available in the New Zealand market place. Generally beer towers are configured as a single tap stand alone tower or multiple tap stand alone tower and in most instances both types are mounted through the bar top. Iridium beer taps are supplied with beer towers and are standard throughout the New Zealand market unless in some instances European beer towers are supplied complete with a European beer taps. Like beer tower styles there are many different finishes available for beer towers ranging from various chrome or plated colours through to high polished and satin finishes. Beer towers are usually manufactured in stainless steel, ceramic or brass although some are produced in wood and composits for specific purposes and designs.

Custom Designed Towers

Generally more expensive custom designed and manufactured beer towers are produced for concept and themed bars generallly to an architechs or designers specification and look. The tower design will often be incorporated into the overall concept and theme of the bar as will the type of beer brands and beverages available for sale in the outlet.

Frozen Towers

Beer towers with a frozen exterior surface capability are available in several variations and are popular in warmer climates. Frozen beer towers achieve the frozen look by being manufactured with the ability to have their inner cavity flooded with refrigerated Glycol which then refrigerates the tower to the point where Ice forms on the exterior surface. The refrigeration and energy requirement to achieve exterior ice build up is significantly higher than for a similar dry tower and the efficiency of the refrigeration and local climate determines the level of ice build up.

Stainless Steel Drip Trays

All standard beer tower installations will have a size matched drip tray mounted below the beer taps on the bar top to catch and drain wastage, residual spillage and post dispense tap drip. Drip trays are made of folded, high polished stainless steel and are drained to sink waste or into a bucket located below the bar.

Drip Trays are available in various standard configurations and sizes along with customised designs for special beer tower installation applications. Drip trays can be recessed into the bar top or sit proud of the bar top in a plinth style.

Drip trays are available to cover the beer spillage area only with the beer towers being mounted directly on the bar top or alternatively a full area drip tray can be used where the beer tower is also mounted on the drip tray making the bar top more resistant to moisture ingress and the dispense area more hygienic and easier to clean.

Recessed or bar top drip trays are available with a glass rinser option. The glass rinser option is designed to rinse and cool the glass with fresh water before the beer dispensing process begins. Glass rinser units use filtered, chilled water to ensure the glass is not contaminated with dust or residue before the beer dispensing process begins.

Beer Dispense Equipment

Equipment Types & Material

BevTech Solutions supply and install all types of equipment needed to operate a beer dispense system of any size or specification. Many components are high specification plastic and are designed as push lock type fittings which makes many parts quick and easy to remove and replace. Many other parts are manufactured in stainless steel or chrome plated brass ensuring most equipment used is non corroding in damp environments or when exposed to cleaning chemicals. Most beer dispense system parts and equipment are specifically designed for beer dispense systems and are only available from specialised manufacturers and suppliers.

Cool Room Equipment

Keg cool rooms house the majority of the significant beer dispense system reticulation equipment with the cool room walls being utilised to mount the various types of equipment near the stored kegs i.e. keg couplers to tap the kegs, fob detectors to isolate the beer flow when a keg has emptied, beer pumps to pump the beer through the reticulation system, beer manifolds to direct beer to the various beer taps, cleaing sockets for beer line cleaning, gas valves to isolate the gas supply to specific areas, glycol chilled water units and plastic box extrusion to bundle multiple beer lines into position. The keg cool room is an ideal loaction to mount beer dispense system equipment because the location is reasonably secure and ensures that reticualtion equipment is loacted in or around the actual bar service area.

Beer Lines

Beer line routes consist of either a loose cluster beer lines run through hard insulated ducting or a factory made beer python cluster which run from the cool room through to the bar and point of dispense areas. Both hard ducting and beer python are efficiently insulated to minimise heat ingress and refrigeration leakage which is essential in ensuring that stationary beer is not compromised through unnecessary warming. All other route sections and risers containing beer lines are insulated and sealed to maintain the integrity of the reticulation system performance throughout the outlet.

Gas System

All beer dispense systems require a pressurised gas system to maintain the correct carbonation levels of the beer and to maintain a predetermined head pressure on the kegged beer to ensure that C02 contained in solution does not break out of solution before the beer is dispensed from the beer tap. The gas system will in most instances contain 1 high pressure regulator and depending on the size of the beer system several low pressure regualtors. The high pressure regulator will govern the source CO2 pressure down to a level where the low pressure regulators can set and maintain the correct operating pressures for the beer dispense system.

Gycol Chilled Water Systems

Glycol chilled water systems are sized according to the refrigeration load imposed by several refrigerated components of a beer dispense reticulation system. Important factors that affect glycol chilled water unit sizing are, length of the beer line route from keg cool room to the point of dispense and the number and type of beer towers included in the beer dispense system. The refrigeration component of a glycol chilled water system can be either remote or integral depending on space requirements and quality of ventilation.

The gycol system pump is an important system component which affects the overall performance of the glycol chilled water system. The pump needs to have the capability to be able to pump a viscous fluid around long circuit routes with vertical elevation contributing to pressure drop in many instances. Pumps, like refrigeration capacity have to be sized correctly when specifying a suitable glycol chilled water system for any unique beer dispense system installation.

When designing high demand beer dispense systems with long circuit routes an aluminium inline chiller plate can be used in conjunction with glycol chilled water system to add more refrigeration capability to maintain dynamic beer temperature. Aluminium chiller plates flash chill beer by acting as a heat sink as the beer is passed through stainless coils set inside the aluminium chiller plate. Chiller plates are particularly effective in excessively warm climates when traditional refrigeration applications are not adequate for the prevailing climatic conditions.

Reverse Osmosis technology is becoming increasingly popular in hospitality outlets especially when large quantities of glassware need to be polished by hand. Reverse Osmosis technology pre-treats water before it enters the glass washer by removing chemical trace elements that over time cause mineral build up on glassware surfaces during the washing process. When installed and maintained correctly Reverse Osmosis units will remove the need to polish glassware for the life of the product. NB Reverse Osmosis units need to be run from a three phase power source.
